A rush for kerosene oil at the GuyOil station on Regent Street yesterday.

Guyana has not changed a bit! I remember lines like this since the early seventies. Ok, granted! Guyana is a country which uses kero as its basic cooking combustible. Ok, hard on the folks, ‘black bottom’ pots and all that oily smoke, and a permanent fire hazard if not properly manipulated. Now, if this is a basic necessity, it should always be available in adequate quantities. I consider this a humiliating situation imposed on the people of Guyana by the government. Guyana is like a mashramani float vehicle, you put it on the road and begin to move forward, then it breaks down, it is pushed unto the side of the road and left there until someone starts striping it for spare parts,then it is taken to some desolate place and forgotten until the next election comes around. They would then start cleaning it up, replace the stolen parts with even worse ones, give it a nice paint job, say Guyana nice, and start all over again. Guyana, the forgotten…, must arise from the ashes of the past …, and the present.
