A pump attendant in the Belfield/Nooten Zuil

A pump attendant in the Belfield/Nooten Zuil area checking the new pump which was recently acquired by the Ministry of Agriculture. Since its arrival in the country last Saturday, the pump has been deployed to the Belfield/Nooten Zuil area to aid in draining the land of floodwater. The capacity of the pump is 40 cu. sec and it is currently being used to drain water from Belfield, Nooten Zuil, Hope and other neighbouring areas. According to Agriculture Minister Robert Persaud, the pump cost about $30 million and includes such features such as a detachable pump head. Persaud said that after being put up for public procurement, the advertisement was answered and the contract awarded. However, Persaud said that owing to the urgency of the situation the entire process had to be expedited and special efforts made to get the pump here as soon as possible. (Photo by Jules Gibson)
