The cardboard house on the reserve at Ruimveldt which someone has been living in for months, surprisingly withstood the recent heavy rainfall. The dweller wrapped the house in plastic during the rains and now seems to have extended it as it is slightly bigger than it was. (Photo by Jules Gibson)

Why is this allowed? Where and when does the law come in.
You cant allow this. Find a shelter to put this individual in.
Is this what you allow people to do in this AGE and time.
Do you want to be in the 21st century, or 100 years backwards.
Shame on those in authority.
Look Mr Owen I do not like what the present gov is doing for its people , and in extention the country I indicate it in most of my blogs , but on this issue of homeless people we all will have to give them a break, lets face facts people are homeless in every country in the world even the great america where you and I live , you should know that if you do not work you will end up in a shelter, if you cannot stand it there you end up on the streets , under a bridge, on a bench in a park , an abondant house somewhere, in a tunnell , by some building, anywhere you can find confort have you ever ridden the bus , or subways in the nights at winter time try it and see for yourself the amount of homeless people trying to stay out of the cold then I thing you will stay quite , no country in the world seems to be able to find a sulution for homelessness it is left up to the family , and realitive to fill the gap but most times they themselfs have problems keeping a roof over their heads.
Guyman I Agree with you 100 %.
The problem lies with the Government, you have to help these poor people, they cannot survive in these hard times.
By the same token, You can’t allow them to put these things up, where are the authorities.Would you like someone to put this up in front your house.??? The problem is far more than we see, How do you get the Authorities to step up and face the battle. Millions of Dollars are spread around, Where??????????????????????????????????
I am in sympathy with these people, and all for them, WE have to HELP THEM. The Government has to start thinking about POOR PEOPLE.
The Rice get richer and the Poorman gets pushed further into the ground. All the countries you mention have some shelters.
Guyana needs more shelters, where they can come and sleep. As long as
I can remember , most of the existing facilities, are only for the very WEAK, and feeble. What about the strong ones who got no where to sleep? The Gov. got to build SHELTERS.Yes families have to help more, but some of these homeless, are stubborn lowners. I agree it is a worldwide problem, Thanks for your comments.
There is no authority in Guyana eany more its all about we this is what they voted for to stay back ,and not go foward
At least something in Guyana works.
Hurray for human ingenuity and endeavour.
People like “Owen Khan” are the type responsible for harassment and persecution of the homeless — be it in the name of “assistance” or their naked rage at seeing unfortunates parked somewhere, anywhere, without being charged hundreds of dollars for their miserable plot of earth on which to exist. At bottom, it’s a jealous rage; the Owen Khans of the world — most of them live in America — want all people to suffer under the weight of taxes, rent, insurance policies and car payments as they suffer and expect their children to suffer. It isn’t enough that a man finds himself in the dumps; he must then be pursued by the self-righteous, yiddling tax-payers who imagine he enjoys living in his tent in a toxic waste dump. Of course “assistance” is equally bad in that traps the homeless up in shelters which very shortly become centers of vice, creating an even unhealthier and more dangerous inner-city atmosphere (where people like Owen Khan do not live). In other words, it’s saddling unfortunates and do-nothings with a different set of expectations and rules. Clean up. Find a job. Be normal. Don’t offend my vision with your makeshift shelter and ragged beard. You see the attitude very clearly in Owen Khan’s peevish phrase, “stubborn lowners (sic)” — he’s angry that someone is daring to OPT OUT of the system with which his ego is identified, and to which all his actions conform.
The man in that tent, whoever he is, has my regards. Guyana does not “need more shelters”. It does not need the advice of an American.
Get a life pal, you dont even understand the blogg.
I having been giving back to Guyana since 1970 and at present last year I gave 18K US to the poor and needy. So shut your mouth and put your money where it’s really needed. That you Malc.???
I dont say I DO. There’s PROOF.
OMG!!!!!the country is becoming shanty town,i always say that govt can’t run that country,no way!what a shame on the govt they do nothing for the poor people!!!!!
