Six senior officers were among those promoted when the Police Service Commission unveiled its list of promotions last night.
Senior Superintendent and Crime Chief Seelall Persaud has been promoted to Assistant Commissioner. Other Senior Superintendents Balram Persaud, Nolan Hendricks, George Vyphuis, Gavin Primo and Steve Merai have all been promoted to Assistant Commissioner.
Meantime, the police in the press release said that the Commissioner of Police made several other promotions within the Police Force, the Special Constabulary and the Rural Constabulary. In the Police Force, 49 ranks were promoted to sergeants, 84 to Corporals and 68 to Lance Corporals.
In the Special Constabulary, in the Regular Section, nine persons were promoted to Sergeants, 17 to Corporals, and eight to Lance Corporals while in the Corporations Section; five persons were promoted to Sergeants, two to Corporals and one to Lance Corporal.
Additionally, in the Rural Constabulary 12 persons were promoted to Sergeants while 45 persons were promoted to Corporal.
This is indeed a comedy of errors! However , look on the brighter side, the pieces have finally been assembled and the king is now WELL secured in his castle. Do you think the man is a FOOL? The Russians are the greatest Chess players and he has learnt well. Isn,t he a protegee?

So what about Deputy Commissioner OPERATIONS? An unpopular (not the yes man type) Asst. Commissioner was in charge. Was he not promoted? If no, why not?
Pre-retirement or retire. Most of these names floating in the topspot will retire in one, two or three years.
So they have promoted Marai. this man was not only the target of a sting operation but he was a notorious individual who committed a heinous act and then was secretly shipped off to canada. when it was revealed that he was living in canada illegally he was asked to leave. I wonder when its time for him to resign what will he do.

Please investigate your facts(includng the correct spelling of Mr. Merai’s name!)before your start writing – it’s quite unfair to make accusations on hearsay.
Promoting them is one thing. Educating and training them right from wrong is another about the seriousness of corruption, Bribery and not cunducting proprer investigations. Police Not making arrests when there is physical violence when called at the scene of a fight because the police know the family or bystanders give evidences there and then….is bad. Been there personally and saw injustice done. Had to walk away coz I would have been arrested for speaking out. If Merai has done all those good deeds as Dr. Peter puts….then let him prove himself. He has been given a bigger opportunity now to make things righter still.

Steve Merai used to walk around Guyana like Rambo,with a golf bag with guns in it.That man is is alleged to have taken the lives of many citizens before they got their day in court. Truly sick.
REWARDED ! Steve Merai rewarded for his loyality. In Guyana, do wrong and you are certain of a high appointment. Jadgeo wants compromised people around him, so that he has total control. If not, he will embarrass you. Look what he did to Westford. She announces no salary increases for public servants, a week later Jadgeo comes out with an announcement that they will get an increase.
Kingpins like politicians like compromised individuals too. It seems that only good genuine leaders do not like compromised individuals.
Remember the name Bernard KERIK?. The person Mr. President wanted to run things and straighten out crime in Guyana. Remember,remember.Talk about compromised people around him.
Merai left the GPF without going through the proper procedure of resigning and went to Canada for over one year. Upon his return to Guyana he was accepted into the force after being absent for that long period. He participated in numerous fatal shootings, including that of Shaka Blair and Leslie hendricks aka Little Mate at point blank range. The guys in the army Like Bispham and the late Ross were chastised for being apolitical and unwilling to get in bed with the government.Whilst Merai got promotion after being linked to numerous illegal activities.What a country and government?

However Dr Peter, your brother was and probably still is a vicious heartless man. His deeds were well known about Guyana and it had nothing to do with bravey, but more with executioner, judge and jury.
My cousin’s son was seen being picked up by Merai and his team many years ago, and that was the last sighting of him!
To this day we do not know where he is.
When Merai disappeared from Guyana some years ago, he was found in London and the report was that he was on a traing course. Poppycock!
He ran because there was a bounty on his head, but we never heard how that was eventually settled to allow his return to the fold to continue his deeds. Ever heard of the boasts about how many hits were made? That was common chatter among the ‘boys’.
If the story about Fraser’s demise were ever to be revealed,
some would have to attend a conflict resolution course!

Decanadian can you prove that Steve had something to do with your cousin’s disapperance? Can you prove he was in London?. Why would a man run away from a bounty hunter and turn right back and come home? Can you prove Steve and his men boasted about ‘hits’ made? Who was your cousin? Why didn’t you report what happened to the police and media? Why are you talking about this now? Could it be that this never happened? You said everything you said is factual right? Steve Merai has an incredibly unusual dislike for rapist and murderers. He would take out a killer for nothing. Steve has often told me about the pure horror unleashed on unsuspecting innocent people at the hands of these fellas. He had to deal with that on a daily basis. Those guys knew what would happen when Steve comes into town. They had plenty on time to turn themselves in. Can anyone name an innocent upstanding guyanese that was killed by Steve Merai? Shaka Blair was a political situation. Steve should have never went there but he was ordered to. That incident seriously damaged his reputation. And for the record, Steve did not kill Mr. Blair. Another policeman admitted to that. Despite what everyone says here, we are all equally entitled to express an opinion. Lets give up some love for Guyana. Happy New Year to you all.
