Two men were each sentenced to three years imprisonment when they appeared at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court on various charges including possession of drugs for trafficking on Monday.

Lallbachan Sookdeo called ‘Smuggle’ of Parika, East Bank Essequibo admitted to several charges of break and enter and larceny, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, and smoking cannabis while Balgobin Singh of Essequibo pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Magistrate Fazil Azeez imposed several sentences on Sookdeo for his offences but they will run concurrently and he will serve three years while Singh was also jailed for three years.

According to court documents, on Boxing Day Sookdeo broke and entered the dwelling of Bibi Safeek and stole two gold chains, a pair of gold earrings, two gold bangles and a gold ring all worth $210,000, the property of Safeek. He was sentenced to two years imprisonment on this charge.

On Boxing Day too, also at Parika, Sookdeo was caught smoking ganja. He was sentenced to a year’s imprisonment on this charge. Upon searching him, police found a gramme of ganja. He was fined $10,000 with an alternative of twenty days imprisonment on this charge. He was also found with two grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. He was sentenced to 36 months imprisonment on this charge.

The court was told that he had been seen jumping into Safeek’s house by a neighbour. Police Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue said that Safeek had admitted to the breaking and entering and had led the police to where he had hidden the items. The court was also told that Safeek was charged with a similar offence but the case had been dismissed because the virtual complainant was not attending court.

Meantime, also on Boxing Day, Singh was found with three grammes of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking.   He was jailed for three years for this offence.

    They have to check for Coacine in Furniture and pepper sause not these little petty things…Poor people will continue to suffer in Guyana…Jail is for the poor, The biggest wife beaters and drug users in Guyana are the wealthy people. but the law does not come into play then, let the poor man break the law, the whole book is thrown at him.
