-had run off to Suriname
The doctor and his fiancée, who mysteriously disappeared on Saturday morning after leaving for the city, were yesterday equally mysteriously reunited with their families after a reported visit to neighbouring Suriname on Sunday.

Late last evening the families of 27-year-old Dr Samsundar Lakeram of Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara (ECD) and his fiancée, 25-year-old Radica ‘Davi’ Dwarka, of Mon Repos, ECD refused to divulge any information to Stabroek News when contacted and would only say that the two were safely back home.

The two had disappeared after they left their respective homes on Saturday morning for the city where they had said they would have repaired a lap top computer and purchased a cellular phone.  The car, PKK 5194,  they were in was later found abandoned behind the Eve Leary Police Station, along the Georgetown seawall with their clothing folded neatly in the car.

Stabroek News understands that the couple had changed their clothing and travelled to Berbice and checked into a Skeldon hotel before travelling to Suriname from where they returned yesterday. It is not clear what the purpose of the travel was as neither could be reached for a comment and their previously cooperative families were unwilling to speak to the media. The police are still to issue an official press release on their disappearance. According to reports the couple was seen in Berbice and contact was made with the police and they were escorted to the city where they were questioned before being released.

Their disappearance had seen their parents searching frantically for them with the young woman’s father braving almost neck high flood water at the back of Enterprise, East Coast Demerara where a prankster had phoned and informed him that their bodies were found. The father, Ramnarine Dwarka, had said that since the couple’s disappearance was aired on two television stations on Sunday with their families’ contact numbers he had received several prank calls.

Residents in both villages had come out in their numbers on Monday to support the two grieving families and many chanted prayers at the home of Sumsundar for his safe return.
When contacted last night Dwarka refused to divulge any information on the couple’s safe return stating that “Is nah me find dem and if you want more information call de boy father.” When Stabroek News visited his home he once again refused to speak but said that a thanksgiving service was in progress for his daughter’s safe return.

Earlier in the day Crime Chief Seelall Persaud had told Stabroek News that the couple’s disappearance did not look like a kidnapping. “There is no evidence to support that they were kidnapped,” he said and when asked if he believed that the two eloped the crime chief said there was also no evidence to support that theory.

One of the leads the police were pursuing was a call made to the father of Samsundar reportedly from his son. “But the only thing the person said was ‘Dad’ and the phone was cut off and we are attempting to trace the number,” the crime chief had said. The call was reportedly made sometime on Sunday night.

Stabroek News had also spoken to Samsundar’s father earlier in the day via cellular phone and he had said that he was not giving any information not even to the police.
Last evening his daughter Radha, who had spoken to this newspaper on Monday, confirmed that the couple was safely back home but said she had no further information on the circumstances. She said that her father had received a call and he acted on it and the couple was returned.

The father was also contacted again after his son’s return and he told the reporter to contact him again at 9pm. A call was made to his phone again before the stipulated time and he said “Leh we just rest this matter I ent have nothing more to say leh we rest it.” Further probed by the reporter who indicated to him that he should say something since the public were made to believe that something had happened to his son the man said, “I say leh we rest this matter, this matter is a serious matter, meh nah say nothing more.”
On Monday relatives of the son had said he left his home and shortly after picked up his fiancée telling relatives he was travelling to the city.

Radha had said he left their home around 10 am on Saturday to travel to Georgetown where he would have repaired his lap top computer and purchased a phone. “That is the last thing we know and when he didn’t come home we start to call his phone but it was off,” the young woman had said. She had said her brother was expected home before 6 pm on Saturday, as he was expected to go out with some friends. She had also stated that they become very worried when he had not returned by nightfall as he never stayed out late.

The next morning his father made a report to the Vigilance Police Station and they later learnt that the car was found and members of the family along with those of Dwarka rushed to the scene. The family helped the police to search but they found nothing.

    • Ulric UNITED STATES says:

Sandman, your recall of issues/incidents is encyclopedic. Now tell me wah happen to de cows. ISNM

    • critik GUYANA says:

Hope the families wouldn’t blame the public for not having any further interest in their future problems.
Let’s say one of them indeed become kidnapped now or is indeed missing…..

    • LoveGT4Real CANADA says:

Evileyes you know that in North America they could easily be charged or would most certainly have to repay the cost for the “search operations”, so the issue has nothing to do with the truth that they did not “ask anyone to worry about them”.

    • SOESDYKE CANADA says:

SandHurst that why I did not say a word.

    • JangO UNITED STATES says:

According to Kaieture New, “Parental pressures” cause them to
      disappear… Right!!!
This story resembles one a dem Bollywood flick me wife does watch.
The honeymoon is over now. Watch dem throw a big, fancy wedding for these two in the near future. I hope they invite the entire search party, especially those GPFs who soak themselves in rain for nothing.

    • evileyes CANADA says:

      LoveGT4Real
I was talking about sand f…he dont worry about anything or anyone…he live life in london called guyana…and yes i know they could be charged and they should be charged.but u have to remember they werent the ones who called de police….

  2. dove GERMANY says:

their actions are “suspect” I guess they do not want further publicity after being found.

    • Soldier UNITED STATES says:

Yes Dove, I do not think they want further publicity, but I think that the parents are not grateful here to the media,,when the couple was missing they needed help and was open up to everyone now that they are found, I think they should have been more compassionate with the media personnel rather than to be soo rude.I feel the police should lock their “behind” up.Sooo irresponsibnnle for two grownups to behave, they are not teenagers they are 25&27 yrs old.

  3. Roger CANADA says:

This story seems funny/fishey. Eather they are hiding something, or they are psycho to leave a car in GT, and travel to Suriname??! That is like the old story told over and over in Guyana about the man who climb up the mango tree to prove to his friend the mango is sweet and came back down and resume pelting!

  4. NO RUM GUYANA says:

As I said before….they should be charged, for causing public pandemonium. They are too irresponsible for big people. The whole village was praying and couldn’t sleep. There was no kidnapping! And look how they made so many people got nervous about kidnapping all over the globe.!!

    • rambler GUYANA says:

causing public pandemonium…never heard of that charge…

    • yarrow UNITED STATES says:

Its time that Guyana get its act together in this day and age. The city should of ticket and tow away the abandant cars with a high storage fee attach to it because this is the first piece of evidence. Now with this report in hand the police would know who to charge and what to charge them for after they appair. However, some people just think that they can do and would be excuse for their doings because of place and ethnic origin.

The village must see them as runaways doing fishy things and the police should charge them because it would happen again, and again because the PPP continue to use these acts to drive fare into people
      from their own constituent.

    • zainno CANADA says:

I am with you on this.
The GPF,and everyone involved should be compensated by these two familes since a lotof money and resources was spent in finding these two. Not to mention like you the public pandenmoniun they caused. They should be charged with public mischief and be made to pay a hefty fine.

    • Sean UNITED STATES says:

I agree with No Rum, they should charge them with public mischief. The families wanted to talk to the media when they went missing but are refusing now to give any information, hope when they need they media and they are not there it’s not a problem. Remember the boy who cried wolf wolf?

    • Gtdonna BERMUDA says:

So you change your tune now eh No RuM? Especially after telling me check my facts, now you hollering a different tune. *SMH*

    • COOLIE WOMAN UNITED KINGDOM says:

Rambler, me neither…but got this meaning from a dictionary. Pandemonium means : state of wild and noisy disordor or confusion; uproar.
It originated from Greek..meaning,’place of all demons’. There is bit more to it.

Hope you are not angry with me anymore seeing I have helped you out. I am reading the other bloggers comments also and you guys are funny! Its hilarious! Guyanese have a great sense of humour!

    • colt45 UNITED STATES says:

      Public Mischief is the charge

    • freespeech UNITED STATES says:

these are adults and don’t have to tell anyone their business.
      the parents are to blame.

    • I understand that the situation as it played out, would have caused any parent and others to worry. But from the inception, it was my position that the two young people eloped or they just wanted to spend some alone time together. Of course they were irresponsible. Also, I question the media’s coverage of the story. It seems to me everyone jumped to conclusions about kidnapping and possible murder, suicide…and of course underneath it all…Guyana’s eternal race problem was simmering. The next step would have been the blame game – which particular ethnic group or even political party, village gang was responsible. The reporting was way too sensationalized. I have seen reports of other young people who go missing and those stories were not given the space devoted to this. What was so different about this couple?

  5. M. Xiu Quan-Balgobind-Hackett UNITED KINGDOM says:

Ah…a story fit for speculation. Speculate away!

  6. DMACK UNITED KINGDOM says:

What a waste of police time, I hope these people are charge, they were condemning prank caller when the real prankster were these two.

  7. LINDENBANNA UNITED STATES says:

Like I stated in my blog on this report. I reserved my rights to give an opinion on this matter. I had my feelings on this, and I am very happy that they are safe and sound.

  8. Cheryl Ungrateful And Selfish UNITED STATES says:

These two r the most selfish and ungrateful persons I’ve ever came across, their parents, famiies and friends are the same, the entire Country and else where were upset and afraid of the outcome, if not found.

The GPF was informed by these parents, who were begging for help, now that they are found, they have the nerve to refused information.

Lock all of them up, until they sing, citizens have to pay overtime to the GPF, who had to be investigating their disappearence, let them pay for these services, then jail all of them, they think it’s a joke, it wasn’t a joke when they were missed from their homes.

Shame on all of you, when the police don’t move in time, all of us go after them, when you are found, ur lips r closed, ungrateful sets.

    • mike hill UNITED STATES says:

shut up people. do we know what really happened, give it arest. supposed they are in danger if they were really kidnapped. just let it be move on, is fast all of you fast. just want know the people business , if someone threatned them will you protect them or will the gpf, lol.

    • Debbie CANADA says:

preach on sista!….let them have it………….lol

    • Cheryl Ungrateful And Selfish UNITED STATES says:

That’s the reason kidnappers would never be eradicated, people with money pay, the poor dies, so u be quite, maybe u know the reason why their r thight liped, next time something happens to them, no one whould have sympathy, only u.

  9. DMACK UNITED KINGDOM says:

I have finish reading this on the Guyana chronicle website, this sound like fake kidnap attempt by these two.

  10. John Smith GUYANA says:

I can’t believe these ingrates, people worrying their head off and praying for them to return safely and this is all we get from the them. This is one irresponsible doctor I would not want to see me even if I am dying.
