A 19-year-old Guyanese student at the University of Toronto has been selected to attend the historic inauguration of US President Barack Obama  on Tuesday in Washington DC.
Former School of the Nations student, Darren Jordan, will be honoured  for five days as a young  leader and will participate in activities commemorating the presidential inauguration and the transition of power, a release stated.

Among those activities are the University Presidential Inaugural Conference and a Black Tie Inaugural Ball.

According to a letter  dispatched to his parents, Winston and Charmaine Jordan,  the release said, Darren was selected based on his leadership skills demonstrated at the Global Young Leaders  Conference in July 2007.

The letter read: “On behalf of the 366 members of Congress on our Honorary Congressional Board  of Advisors, I  would like to extend my congratulations on this extraordinary recognition of Darren’s achievements and the special character he demonstrated  at GYLC. You should be very proud.”

The release added that his hosts are confident that he will gain a deeper understanding of the history behind the electoral process in the United States and will be inspired by the richness of tradition surrounding the inauguration.

This lucky chap……I WISH I COULD HAVE GONE THERE TO SEE THIS!!!! THIS IS THE DEFINING MOMENT IN AMERICAN POLITICAL HISTORY….I JUST WISH SOMEONE CAN SAY…”You will be there”

If Obama calls me (and that might never happen in this lifetime) and says he need me to be his bodyguard…that will be the most awesome thing that could happen in my life, he ain’t even gotta pay me, just being there is enough.

  10. Kaikan UNITED STATES says:

    Sandhurst,
I can see why you were sent back to Guyana from Sandhurst.
The government of Guyana wasted precious dollars sending you for training, only to be embarrassed by the likes of you. You need to be quiet and try to make yourself a better person.

    • SandHurst First GUYANA says:

And life goes on…..and on…..Why are you still living in the past???

    • myinput CANADA says:

In defence to Sandhurst’s note. At least his immediate family (if he has any) will be well taken care of (in terms of death benefits). I am sure president guards’ family won’t get much if they die in the line of duty. Also, a man can dream. Can’t he?

    • SOESDYKE CANADA says:

Kaikan, that statement was totally uncalled for. But that is the typical, Guyanese attitude.

    • SandHurst First GUYANA says:

Don’t worry with him, he is just another hater!!
