-sustained 13 wounds

A 38-year-old mother of four was brutally slashed to death by her reputed husband during a heated argument at their Lot 79 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop home last evening. Up to press time the suspect, a 28-year-old security guard was still on the run.

Pamela Beverly Mangru

Dead is Pamela Beverly Mangru who was killed two days before she would have celebrated her 39th birth anniversary.

Police held the suspect’s brother, shortly after the gruesome discovery was made.

According to the information reaching Stabroek News the woman’s throat was slit and she was stabbed some thirteen times before the man made a quiet exit from the home. The incident occurred around 8 pm.

However the woman’s screams were followed by sudden silence, the relative said adding that shortly after the man was seen locking the door to the home and the gate before quietly walking out of the area.

The landlord, who lived in the upper flat became suspicious and made several failed attempts to contact relatives to come to the house and check on Mangru to ensure she was alright.

The man, the shock still evident in his voice, related that relatives were eventually contacted but by the time they arrived, the police were already in the house.

The man said that police were called and when they kicked down the door they found a bloodied Mangru. She was already dead.

The police, he said, told him that she was stabbed some 13 times about the body.

According to him, the couple had their “ups and downs” and that was probably why the neighbours did not intervene.

The woman leaves behind, four children, the eldest is 21 and the youngest is 11.

Mangru’s brutal demise follows on the heels of a spate of domestic violence against women. On March 12, Savitri Arjune, a mother of two, was stabbed to death by her former reputed husband moments after she had left her Herstelling, East Bank Demerara home.

At the time of the incident, the woman who had endured years of abuse and threats from the man, was making her way to the public road to catch transportation to the city where she worked.

Up to now, the police have failed to apprehend the man and no bulletin has been issued for him. Then during the wee hours of February 15, Deborah Allen was chopped to death by her reputed husband in their Oronoque, Port Kaituma home following an argument over a party.

After inflicting the blows on the woman, the man turned his weapon on her 16-year-old daughter, chopping her across the face. The man subsequently turned himself over to the police.

Hours later the bloodied bodies of Nekecia Rouse and her sister-in-law, Alexis ‘Keisha’ George were discovered in Smythfield, New Amsterdam. They had been stabbed to death. Rouse was the mother of a four-year-old daughter while George had a one-year-old girl.

Both girls were in the house when the gruesome discoveries were made. Several suspects were subsequently held but released. Police investigations are still ongoing in this case.

On February 8, less than a day after she was allegedly stabbed by her husband following an argument, Latoya Conway Woolford, a mother of three succumbed to her injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The husband fled after the incident and attempted to commit suicide. He spent several days in hospital before being taken to court charged with the capital offence.

  1. what a waste of life, what is going on in guyana with these men? i grew up with my mom and dad and the only time my father hit my mom is when they were playing. if u cannot get along find another woman. about 10years ago it was 13 women to one man. men should ask themselves, would u like some one to do that to ur mother or daughter

    • DEATHS DUE TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE CONTINUES AND IT USUALLY HAPPENS AFTER A HISTORY OF PHYSICAL ABUSE . WHY CAN’T THE WOMEN LEAVE AFTER THE 1ST SIGN OF ABUSE ? THE CHILDREN ARE THE REAL VICTIMS OF THESE SENSELESS KILLINGS .

    • clearview UNITED KINGDOM says:

Heart felt sadness for the family. I agree with you and a woman should be able walk at the first sign of violence. Guyana would need to implement a refuge and support system for women with zero tolerance on domestic violence. communitys are so close in Guyana that its hard to get away with out someone telling were a person is sheltering.

This shows how far the pride of some men has declined over the years in Guyana. this is not the first or last time we will read of such a crime.

Man with all of his skills of enchanting his lady with a silky tongue. Forgets his lady is equally intelligent so when horns are locked instead of lashing out to get an advantage WALK AWAY AND COOL DOWN. because it only takes a moment to take a life and ruin the lives of others.

    • Desi UNITED STATES says:

Guyana has a long history of wife abuse. Listen to this one from the 1880s.
The following strange case of wife-beating, for instance, was tried before Mr. G. H. Hawtayne, S.J.P., at Belfield Police Court, on Tuesday, March 2, 1880: Thomas Greaves was charged by Inspector Butts with having assaulted his wife Ann, at Ann’s Grove Village. The wife and husband occupied different apartments in the same house. On the night of the 24th ult., the defendant (as he alleged) read three chapters from the Bible, prior to lying down, after which a thought occurred to him that he should ‘ make friends ‘ with his wife, so he went to her bedside, and begged her ‘ to turn,’ but she would not, and he became enraged and beat her into fits. Dr. Dalton stated that he attended the wife at the request of the defendant. Her throat was a little swollen, and there were a few scratches on her shoulders…. The defendant said he regretted very much that the matter had been laid before the public. Himself and wife had a struggle, and he flogged her with a strap. “Mr. Hawtayne”: ‘You must have used some violence to the woman. Wife-beating is becoming very prevalent amongst you []. You read three chapters of the Holy Gospel and then lashed your wife. All your religion doesn’t do you much good.’ Fined $15, or six weeks.”

    • That’s no excuse for killing her, stop making excuse for that looser, which side of the fence are you on my fellow blogger.

    • John Smith GUYANA says:

Rayman, just STOP, STOP. What she could have done to have her throat slit and stabbed? She must have given him a sound trashing or maybe she did not cook after she got home from a hard day’s work in the city. Maybe she told him he had to help out in the house because she is working. Maybe she was so tired that she could not satisfy his desires. Maybe, just maybe she she must have loved him too much and he could not stand it so he abused her for years and finally put an end to her life. Ypu just have to stop makining excuses for this fool, his day is coming.

    • G. Scott CANADA says:

And men do aggravate women also. So would it be acceptable for the women to kill the men when they are aggravated? This is such a useless comment. In relationships both parties aggravate each other. Violence is not the answer

Come on Rayman ! I can’t help but reply to your comment .
Regardless if she was a bad woman , cheating on him , verbally abusing him or whatever else . He has no right to kill her or anybody . He is not God , he didn’t give her life & obviously has no right to take it. I don’t know where you’re originally from but I’m Guyanese bro. and I know how foolish , pig headed & Ignorant my fellow guyanese men could be .I’ve lived in a society with such people and promised myself never to be like that , which I’m proud to say that I’ve accomplished that goal and hope that other men will be able to achieve. My condolences to the children & remaining relatives.

Rayman, do you known of the word self control? you are so wrong on this one.
It does not matter what she had done to him he had a choice to walk away.maybe you will learn something from this Raymond. My heart goes out to the children and relatives of Pamela.

Rayman how old are you and who the hell raise you? Your entire comment was a waste of time. Blame the victim. Go and educate yourself on domestic violence. Your comment was very ignorant..i’m sucking my teeth and shaking my head at your stupidity….

    • Durbie UNITED STATES says:

Rayman, I wouldn’t go as far as the other bloggers as state that your comments are dunb and insensitive. What I would say is that something is definite wrong with your thinking. Probably you came from the stone age or a new arrival from the cave of Afganistan!! Your thinking is that of the Taliban and what makes matter worse you are living in a free society that you don’t deserve. And to all the men out there, WOMEN ARE NOT PROPERTY!!! They are your partner, girlfriends, wives, daughters, sisters, mothers grandmothers. GET IT. These sick men who doesn’t have the guts to to fight real men take out their anger and fustration on the weak, they should be sent to the hanging chamber

    • Soca Jam UNITED STATES says:

  6. Mike CANADA says:

From the report given this man seems to have carried out a premeditated act. He deserves the gallows. When I was a kid I used to say,”He make sure she dead, dead dead.” He then calmly walked out as if nothing I had happened. This animal is really cold cold. I pray he gets a just reward, death. One cannot avoid seeing the sharp beauty of the woman so I guess he had real challenges which he could not cope with, and hadn’t the you know what to walk away with dignity. Men should be able to keep thier hands safely by their sides to collect their pension or walk away when provoked by a woman.Let me relate this story to you.A man returned to his rented apartment earlier that day than usual
and found his landlord with his pants off in the presence of his wife. He turned to his wife and told her she was having a nice time then calmly left the apartment and soon after divorced her. That man was a strong man. He/She who has very good control over his/her anger or emotions when faced with trying circumstances may be much stronger than the muscular. You cannot take what the woman is giving you go.Sometimes many of us do look for what comes to us.

    • ralex CANADA says:

excellent mike! u always have to PAY FOR YOUR ACTION, no matter what you do and who u do it to, if u want your future to be bright. U born by yourself wid nothing and U will go back by yourself wid nothing. so life goes on in what path u take.

  7. KittyKat CANADA says:

VIOLENCE against women is unacceptable and should be priority number one on all domestic agendas. This man is a demon and should be treated as such.Violence against women was glamorised many decades ago by the Mighty Sparrow, it has alway been rampant in our society(the old saying”if yo nah beat yo wife she nah go luv yo)Every now and then cuff dem down has come back to haunt us and it is up to us to correct that backwardness of our Guyanese society.Ms. Manickchand should be 100% supported in her bold new ideas.

    • Kitty kat why don’t you tell sparrow to correct that song, since he’s the one that sang it.

    • Ultimate W CANADA says:

You’re right Kitty Kat,It’s back to haunt us .
Years ago we all dance , laugh & have a good time with this song becasue it’s the Mighty Sparrow that sang it .
Never opposing the message of the song . Well, as we can see ,this incident is an extension of the song.

    • balgobind NETHERLANDS says:

KITTYKAT HOW ABOUT “BLACK UP DAY EYE BRUSE UP DAY KNEE DEN DAY LOVE u ETERNALLY”TOO YOUNG TO KNOW ABOUT THAT ONE EH? MAYBE HE MEANT “A WOOD RADA KILL YUH DAN LOOSE YUH” with all these domestic voilences that have escalated, I think it has to do with the liberation of women, in the olden days the women were more obedient and dependent most women today answer back and the idiotic weak-links as him cannot handle the situation.so they get to the extreme. It seems as if godhas forsaken good old guyana. Lets all pray for a better society
may god be with the grieving family and the poor children

  8. Zaphurius GUYANA says:

Who’s keeping count? I’m dead sure that domestic violence in Guyana is on the increase.

As Mr. Sharma would say……everything is on the increase.

What is causing us men to be so violent?

    • Ultimate W CANADA says:

I’ll attempt to answer your question Zaph.
Lack of Morals , lack of compassion for our fellow men ,The modern day idea of ‘God is not real’, ignorance , which is the product of a lack of education and finally pride ( I’m the man of the house and everybody must do as I say .)
      My opinion of course.

    • M. Xiu Quan-Balgobind-Hackett (-181) UNITED KINGDOM says:

…ultimate w, buddhists don’t believe god is real (an ancient idea)…yet DV is not high among them…taliban believe god is real…DV is high among them…

    • Ultimate W CANADA says:

M.Xiu Quan, It’s a combination of that idea plus the other ones I mentioned that creates such a mindset .
It would be interesting to see your take on this though, maybe you should attempt Zaphurius question ,You seems always to have the solutions to guyana’s troubles.

    • tiger CANADA says:

countless i would say,and to add, domestic violence is not on the increase anymore my friend, its way out of countrol now.

Banna when its something thats not seen or spoken about then its not an issue. this is not directly a gov’t failing the womens groups need to pressure this issue fathers mothers brothers sisters all together need to protest.
I dont know how people dont feel shame for these things.Violence can be like a sweet feeling and what I mean by that is some people think this is normal and live with it.Like some one mentioned also in the uk acts violence can ruin your life you risk losing your job banned from being with your own children and barred from taking part in basic social activitys.

  10. dana UNITED STATES says:

Now this is the mess i was talking about yesterday. Why, why ????. Who made this man god, and what kind of protection these women have from the gov when abuse is reported? Now 4 children are without a mother. It seems like either way they are in trouble, because the men usualy get the one way or the other family included. The first time they get hit they should leave because this is always the end result. Sympathy to the children and family of this young lady, and for all you young women in this kind of situation look and learn. Don’ walk run because this could be you.

    • Soldier UNITED STATES says:

They never learn Dana,,,They are contributing to this sort of voilence, I think this is the number one agenda in Guyana,The Minister is preaching everyday for women to report any sort of Domestic voilence but they fail to do so until it reaches this stage.. As long as a man hit you once, you have to stop it because it is the biginning of more to come and that is because that is all some men know,,,some of these women will tell you the looking at their children’s face, well if that is true the better thing to do is to report abusive relationships and get help quickly.

    • debbie ANTIGUA AND BARBUDA says:

well said DANA abuse start by words then comes the blows and then you know i am sorry for her kids may she rest in peace and may he hang by you know

    • DENNIS54 CANADA says:

I agree with u the kids and i know she reported it many times but know protcetion for the women in guyana even the police beat up on there woman in guyana and they feel that they are above the law so when she report it means nothing but the goverment should make new laws against those women beating punks in the states a man is scared to hit on his woman because he knows what will happen he has to face the law

    • Banna CANADA says:

Listen, this is not a complicated issue , the government of Guyana has let down it’s women by not providing the help and support they need in these situations, period.

    • The govt and the womens’ organisations , along with the police , needs to provide protection for women and their children and the women who are being abuse must report the abusive behaviour to the police . They should also try to get out of the abusive relationships .
The govt must provide safe shelters for the abused women and their children and the men who are perpetrating the abusive behaviour , must be dealt with severely .
Education about anger management should be taught in the schools and throughout the country . Parents must tell their boys that it is wrong to beat women or in any way abused them . The Trade Unions must also have seminars dealing with anger management .
This man cut his reputed wife’s throat and stabbed her 13 times . In Barbados , a guyanese man stabbed his wife 21 times ; is this a cultural thing ??
Uncontrolled anger is at the center of of these violent acts .

    • balgobind NETHERLANDS says:

lets face facts dana LEAVING IS EASIER SAID THAN DONE.Refferring what Ghandi said about an eye for an eye with those type I would rather the whole world go blind than to be abused…As adults we all should know what it is to love and to be loved, one can loose their temper, but there is a limit when one’s hands are LOOSE it has to be SCREWED ON PROPERLY. Any one who is not your parents has no right to lay a finger on you. The first CLAP IS ALWAYS A SURPRISE. PREPARE FOR THE NEXT. Wait til E sleep an WUK E A.. IN bet E neva attempt to even as much as point a finger. men like those
NEED DOUBLE-BANKING I am wondering where were her children? and how could teeners allow their mother to be abused by a man who; according to his age is not their father. THE CUT ASS HE WOULD HAVE RECEIVED FROM ME AND MY TWO DAUGHTERS and I would not want to mention my one son. Dear god how could it has gotten so far?
