Tony Marks, the 42-year-old man accused of murdering a nine-year-old girl at Parika, East Bank Essequibo back in 2007 was freed after the case against him was discharged at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Marks, called ‘Nutman’ a Blue Berry Hill, Linden resident was charged with murdering Basmattie Seecharran called Indy. Her body was discovered on a Parika beach on January 16, 2007.
According to reports the girl was last seen by her mother on January 15 that year and was discovered the next day among a pile of logs on the beach. She was lying face down and one side of her face was swollen while blood oozed out of her nose and ear. She was clothed only in pants. A post-mortem examination revealed that she died from manual strangulation compounded with blunt trauma to the head. She was also sexually assaulted.
The case was heard before Magistrate Fazil Azeez at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court. The magistrate said that a prima facie case was not made out against Marks and discharged the case. He said that there was no evidence that linked Marks to the death of Seecharran.

May a Higher Justice prevail. Man’s justice has failed this child.
How sad, hope this family gets justice.
THIS IS A VERY SAD SITUATION – LOSS OF INNOCENT CHILD’S LIFE:
DO WE NOT HAVE THE CAPABILITY FOR DNA TESTING WHICH COULD BE USED IN THE COURTS.
IS THIS MAN REALLY INNOCENTS, WHAT EVIDENCE WAS USED TO CHARGE,
IS THERE SOMEONE ELSE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BRUTAL KILLING OF THIS CHILD ???
I see television viewing of crime shows is a serious past time of many bloggers. Do you know if the assailant used a condom? Do you know if the sexual assault occurred before or after death? Do you know the nature of decomposition when the body was found? Do you know if the sexual assault was committed with an object and not human penetration? No you know if the assailant is impotent and incapable of penetration or an erection? Do you know if the assailant had an ironclad alibi? Stop jumping to conclusion. As much as we want justice let’s make certain it is imposed on the guilty and not the most vulnerable.
BORAPOKE as usual,, How do you know when one is innocent and when they are vulnerable,,,by the way what sense are all these question making Bora Poke???
Borapork-I am sure there were forensic evidence at the crime scene ex.hair, sperms, blood etc. Guyana is not equipped to carry out such an investigation.
Anyone who hurt a child are worst than animals.
I wonder if the did a DNA test since she was molested
No surprise here. Unsolved crime keep on mounting!!
HOW CAN THE PARENTS OF THIS INNOCENT CHILD GET PEACE, REST & JUSTICE????
Well what do you know, after all this time there is no case against him.Who killed that little angel? Can the cops continue the investigation and find the true killer/killers after messing up in the first place.Shocking.
Stabroeknews can you tell us about the other little schoolgirl that was murdered in Mocha
The police need to do some serious investigation into this hidious crime. My heart goes out to the parents.Come on people see what is happening in the USA, we need to protect our children.
I have blogged before about having a DNA lab set up here for forensic testing. The method used by the police here, finger print, which place ppl at the crime scene is now outdated.
Samples off th dead could have been tested and determined who was the killer.
I hope our president raise this issue at the Heads Of Government Submit here. Crime seems to be on the increase in Guyana and the Caribbean because of the deportees and some influenze from the electronic media.
We need to have DNA testing done here to help solve some crimes which have become COLD CASE.
so very sad -
