Freed murder accused Ashanti Shultz filed a suit against the government in the High Court yesterday for $200 million dollars in damages saying that she was maliciously prosecuted.
Shultz also known as `Blondie’ approached the court through a battery of lawyers led by attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes. She is also seeking damages for false imprisonment from the period September 16, 2007 to July 2, 2009.
Justice William Ramlal directed the jury in Shultz’s trial to return a unanimous verdict of not guilty following no-case submissions by Hughes on Thursday. The judge, in his ruling, had pointed out that no evidence was presented in court to show that Shultz was guilty.
Nero, a 58-year-old hospital porter was fatally wounded in an incident where it was reported that Schultz and other women were involved in an argument.

This is insanity. You can be locked up and tried if there is enough evidence that you committed a crime. That question was answered in the lower courts so Mr. Hughes and others need to get over it. Being freed doesn’t only mean that you did not commit a crime, it could also mean that the case was poorly presented and it appears that way in this instance.
Dem policeman should pay a heavy price for all a da foolishness that they do in court. Send a strong message so that the others who gonna be laxed in their attitude know what the consequences are.
What!
This is the height of….
A fortunate dismissal, and now she have the gall to sue?
The Gov’t should in turn counter-sue for $400M for malicious
suing.
Some people have tthe gall to push their luck.
Not only the government, the Nero family should be at the forfront of this counter suit
If she can sue then all others should do the same, i mean people who were arrested wrongfully, people who were tortured and beaten by the police should follow as she did.
Afterall GY is a DEMOCRACY!!
More shoddy work by Gov’t representatives. Unfortunately , if any recompensation is awarded it would be the TAXPAYERS money, unfortunately.
That means that everybody who passed through the court system and was found not guilty can sue the govt now, she should count herself lucky, there are more innocent people doing time because of poverty and no strings to pull.
She is ungrateful in my opinion. She should be happy that the police did not give the right evidence. I think the prosecuter should appeal the decision and push for a retrial and have the balistics report back and read it out and really get her convicted. The poor man life get taken and no justice served. Every time evidence report was asked for, it was stated that it was not picked up. Come on people, dont you know you have a murder trial to attend…….pick up your evidence result and have it on hand…………be prepared.
Do you see the unmitigated gall of this person. With a reputations such as hers, she sues the Government. Absolutely right, maybe now the government will go after her.
this lawyer is takeing his eyes pass the govt of the day
As a citizen she as that right. But i can bet that she will not receive one cent from this Government.
Go after her 4 what?
The government of Guyana take every tom dick and harry bandit 2 b police so they have 2 suffer the consequences.
