The proprietor of Rishma’s Fashion, a clothing store located in the City Mall was last evening admitted to Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) in a critical condition after being chopped several times about her body by a man who attempted to rob her.
According to reports reaching Stabroek News, some time before 5 pm yesterday, 25-year-old Dhanwantie Phulchand was alone in her store when a former employee of hers walked in and demanded cash and items. She refused and the man began chopping her about the body.
When this newspaper visited the City Mall yesterday afternoon, blood was splattered across the floor of the boutique.
Meanwhile, other store owners said that the suspect is a known character and had previously attacked another person at the mall.
Officials at the mall placed paper across the glass to prevent persons from peering into the store, especially the decent-sized crowd which had gathered outside the store.
At the hospital, relatives of the injured woman remained tense and worried as she was being attended by doctors.
“Oh God just spare she life fuh we,” one relative said repeatedly.

How come this happened in a place that is always busy on Saturdays? No one saw what was happening? Why was he allowed to escape? This story seems to be missing lots of parts.

Having said that one wonders what security measures are in place to protect business persons in that mall. The article states that this person is known and have attacked store owners in the past. Do they have his photograph posted throught the mall? Do they have security posted at entry and exits and within the mall? Is there even an alarm system in place to alert the security forces during such accurances? More has to be done to protect those tennants in that mall!!!
The article did not state if this man was arrested. He should not be released back into the streets.
There so many crimes down in the home land, but the one that gets to me the most is when honest and hard working people are being targeted. Lock this guy up and throw way the key. or!
How can they do this in a mall and get away ?
…the need for “cheese” to look an be accepted as one in a gatherin of rats ! is the motivatin factor in the equation of this type of behavior ,, “crack” cocaine is usually the motivator ,, looking for the nex “high” to take him ,, to the limits of the “first” high ! which remains elusive ,, hence de diagnosis of “hooked”
I sincerely wish Dhanwantie Phulchand of “Rishma’s Fashion” a speedy recovery. The assailant has committed a brazen and criminal act of violence and must be speedily brought to justice. It is disgraceful when you bite that hand that feeds you. This “mad man” must be taken off the streets of Guyana. He ought to be kept in a “safe place” where he will interface with individuals who have adrenaline counts that equal and even greater than his. Oh! what an episode of unprovoked attack on a defenseless young woman.
