The 19-year-old woman, who sustained knife wounds to her right lower abdomen, is in a stable condition.
Shalo Gildharie of 316 Enterprise Gardens, East Coast Demerara was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital on Saturday evening after she reportedly sustained the injuries sometime before 4 pm that day.
Gildharie’s mother Sugito Ramcoomar had told Stabroek News that her daughter’s mother-in law had told her that Gildharie was walking down the stairs when she slipped and fell on a knife she had been cleaning fish with.
The visibly distressed Ramcoomar had said she had her doubts as to whether this was what had happened. Ramcoomar said Gildharie and her husband had an argument on Friday and it resulted in him slapping her.
Gildharie and her in-laws refused to speak about the incident yesterday. All they would say was the young woman was “feeling much better”.
Stabroek News was unable to contact Ramcoomar yesterday.

This young lady need to go back to her mother, and the cops need to arrest this guy and put him before the court.
Why are these young people russing into marriage at such an early age , most of them go against their parents wishes to get into these relationships and even commit suicide when they can’t get it their way .We should be looking the legal age ,18 is not the appropriate age for any young to get married , it is time for them to concentrate on their career.The gov’t should cancel the legal age of 18 and make it 25 , or 30 so that young people can develop a career first , marrage should only be permitted if u have completed your career .This will allow our people to mature well before they enter into union and will surely curtail domestic violence.
I hope to God that the police will take up this matter with prompting from the Ministry of Human Services (if needed). Here in the US as soon as a person visits the hospital with suspicious wounds, the police have to be notified and an investigation will commence and if warranted, prosecution will follow. Clean fish my tail, its a fishy story, thats what it is.
