Acting Auditor General Deodat Sharma in his 2007 report has raised concerns about 21 contracts that were awarded for the construction of Amerindian Village Offices without proper adherence to Tender Board procedures.

In his report, the Auditor General noted that “there was no evidence to indicate adherence to Tender Board Procedures” even as $21 million was expended. Some of the money was used to construct Amerindian Village Offices at Crash Water, Toka, Surama, Karasabai and other locations, under the Amerindian Development Fund.

In response, the Head of the Budget Agency within the Amerindian Ministry explained that “the Village Councils were each given grants of $1 million to construct the offices and this was done in adherence to the Procurement Act, utilizing the community participation method.”

The Auditor General, however, stated that the requisite evidence was not presented.

Well done Auditor General! You really came up with a whopping finding here! The Ameridians did not follow tender procedures for $21 million!
The citizens of Guyana are now assured that the rest of Government is spending in accordance with procedures. You must know that most Guyanese do not go to school in August.
    Sorry, it’s not believable.

This is plain and simple what the PPP has been doing for years, they are handing out cash left right and center to some folks in the amerindian villages to buy votes meanwhile the monies are going to a few rather than the upliftment of all.

I bet many of you this auditor general is going the way of the dodo bird, Jagdeo will find some reason to fire him or get rid of him like what they did to Joseph O’Lall and the last auditor general.
