A 25-year-old taxi-driver died early yesterday after his car collided with a canter truck on the Versailles, West Bank Demerara public road.
Dead is Levi Seecharran of Lot 16 Ruimzeight Gardens, West Coast Demerara. The father of one was heading to work at the Gem’s Taxi Service base in Georgetown when the incident happened shortly after 5 am. He reportedly died on the spot.
The incident occurred at a turn on the Versailles Public Road just opposite the Aracari Resort. Seecharran was driving his car, HB 5633, in a southern direction while the canter, GLL 8336 was heading in the opposite direction. According to reports, at the turn, the canter had moved across to Seecharran’s lane and as he attempted to avoid the truck, they collided. Seecharran’s car was smashed while the truck also suffered some damage. Seecharran was transported to the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The driver of the canter and the owner, who was also said to be in the truck at the time, left the scene. They later turned themselves in to the police and were taken into custody at the Vreed-en-Hoop Police station, where the driver remained up to yesterday.
The dead man’s brother, Ragindranauth Tribuhan told Stabroek News that Seecharran had left home at 5:10 as he had to pick up someone and take them to Parika. He stated the man left early because the Demerara Harbour Bridge was scheduled to be closed to traffic at 5:30am. Tribuhan recalled that at 5:50am, he received a call relating that his brother was involved in an accident and he had died. He said that he was asked to go to the hospital to identify the body.
Grieving family members gathered at the home yesterday, lamenting Seecharran’s untimely death. He had been married for two years and was the father of a nine-month-old boy. Relatives disclosed that it was just a week ago that he started working with the taxi service and only on Sunday was he allowed to take the car home. Seecharran is also survived by his parents, who live in the North-West District, five brothers, three sisters and other relatives. Police are continuing their investigations. Condolence to the family but most of the article is padding and waste of space. It deserved two lines.SN will benefit from pandering to voyeurs and those with morbid interests in tragedies. The mention of the closing of the Harbour Bridge will get anti-government people trying to put blame on govt. Hear them : “If the bridge had not be closed, this would not have happened !!! Blame the govt for the continuing carnage and mayhem in Guyana and senseless loss of lives ! Oh God , why can’t people see that and I have to write in all de time, sob, sob, sob…”
Reddy, eschew to you.It is the nitpicking of your type that makes the government so damn aversive to criticism. It was just a situation described. Why not use the time and comment neutrally on the PNC/R’s call to rectify on the procurement process..shame on you.
What small mind
Look who is talking about being morbid? Reddy was the one who was asking for Stabroek News to publish pictures of the “two-headed baby” It is very imbecilic of you to suggest that people are going to blame the government for the bridge opening, when it was made for that from day one.
Everytime you ‘open you mouth’ I get this eery feeling that you are bias and you never and you never disappoint me.
I wonder if one day you wake up and see Stabroek News site blank, how you might react. I am not sure if you would laugh becasue truth about the government is no longer published or you might cry becaue you no longer have an avenue to spew you benightedness.
Another struggling worker has his life snuffed out because of indiscipline and lack of road courtesy. How do these people have licences but are so reckless? The lawlessness in Guyana is pervasive. May his soul rest in peace and his family find the strength to bear their loss at this mournful time.
so the driving saga and acccident just continues without intervention from the transportation department. really sad!
My Sincere & Heartfelt condolances to the bereved family members.
May his soul rest in peace.
My condolences goes out to the family of the disease.
I was in Guyana two weeks ago and I find it very strange
how the drivers are maneuvering tours. They all seems to
be going over to the other lane at the turns instead of just
just slow down. I find this practice very dangerous. I think this should be look into by the traffic enforcement.
very sad,but we didn’t get the whole story. we get the name of the desease and family, but no name of the canter driver. does that mean he is guilty and he is trying to cover it up already?
It very sad to see so many young people have to die, and its all bcoz of reckless driving. Ravi is right this should be looked into by the traffic enforcement if they have one.
