Drug trafficking accused Ghalee Khan, who was busted in the US last November and later charged with jumping bail, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a drug charge.

Khan, 31, of 198 Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt is accused of supplying a convicted prisoner with cocaine and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton. He pleaded not guilty to the charge of trafficking in narcotics when it was read to him.

It is alleged that on October 23, 2008 at Diamond, East Bank Demerara, Khan had in his possession 3 kilos, 408 grammes of cocaine to supply to convicted prisoner Orlando Dwayne Humphrey also known as Dwayne Ifill.

Attorney-at-law Glenn Hanoman represented Khan and made an application for reasonable bail to be granted. Hanoman told the court that Khan has no antecedents and he will return to court for his trial.

The attorney’s application was denied by Magistrate Octive-Hamilton. The matter was transferred to the Providence Magistrate’s Court where Khan will appear on July 10.

A US court issued arrest warrants for Khan, a Guyanese businessman and promoter, and his alleged co-conspirator Danvor Griffith after they failed to show up for their court hearing after being granted bail

In early March, the prosecutors in their case said they would present a superseding indictment asking for the forfeiture of their bail. The two men, who were arrested last November, failed to make their court appearances after Justice Ramon E. Reyes granted them bail. Khan was granted bail in the sum of US$200,000 and while Griffith’s bail was US$250,000.

According to the bail jumping charge, the two, having been released on bail “…knowingly and intentionally failed to appear before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York as required by the conditions of [their] release…”  It was stated that the two are charged with offences punishable by imprisonment of 15 years or more.

Khan and Griffith were jointly charged with conspiracy to import cocaine, importation of cocaine and conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Khan was separately charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute while Griffith was charged with attempted possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.

One of the conditions of them being granted bail was that they were not to make contact with each other.

They had not been seen or heard from since and their attorneys and relatives have told authorities they do not know where they are.
Stabroek News was reliably informed that Khan has been in police custody since last Wednesday. The man, sources said, was apprehended in Georgetown and had entered Guyana on June 30.

Meanwhile with regard to the US drug charge, Khan and Griffith were reportedly tracked after leaving Guyana but were allowed to leave the John. F. Kennedy airport to make the drop before they were busted. Khan was under surveillance as he travelled on a flight from Trinidad to the US. Court records had indicated that after Khan arrived in the US, federal agents detected cocaine stashed in the rails and handles of his suitcase but allowed him to leave the airport to make the delivery.

Another sophisticated charade to keep this fugitive ofthe US justice system safe in Guyana . Under this current madministration NONE of the big fishes in the narco business has been subject to our dieing.dead laws & this is no different.

    • BORAPORK CANADA says:

Please let’s get away from this Bajan complex. In Barbados if you have a kitchen garden you are an industrial farmer, if you have two cows you are a cattle rancher. In Guyana, being caught with drugs you become a businessman.

The U.S.A. should seek his extradition and if the government of Guyana refuses as they did in not accepting deportees some years ago, no more visas for government officials including our frequent flier President.

    • freespeech UNITED STATES says:

these are the big fishes left, after roger khan.
deliver them to the US and collect the bail to enhanced the security forces.

    • Sanderson Rowe BARBADOS says:

Anything to include Barbados,eh. BTW i’ve never heard the terms Industrial Farmer or Cattle Rancher used in Barbados.Stop spreading misinformation.Haven’t you done enough damage to Barbados already?

  2. James UNITED STATES says:

..it leave me to wonder if he got basic common sence.

  3. John Smith UNITED STATES says:

Well all those who were wondering where the fugitive “businessman” was, we all know now that he is right back in Guyana. Am I shocked he is here? NO!!

Hanoman told the court that Khan has no antecedents and he will return to court for his trial. Have you ever heard of such bull? The man vanished from the mighty USA without a trace (?). Now you tell me what would he do in Guyana if he is put on bail? Reasonable bail my foot, he jumped US$250,000.00 bail, which is $50 million Guyana dollars. Is that amount reasonable enough for him to vanish again? Let history speak for itself.

    • yarrow UNITED STATES says:

It goes to show why the US deals with Guyana this way. The US deal with Guyana and Guyanese different and instead of Guyanese speaking out on these misfits, Drug Lords, Money Launderers, and gun runners they keep them well secured and hiddenunder covers in Guyana.

If everyone can just read this article over, and over and pay close attention to how Ghalee Khan a Guyanese can travel back and fort because of his drug connection between Guyana and New York. His action speaks volume about visitors from other countries and the many unaccounted execution type deaths in and out of Guyana all in the name of drugs and Drugs Lords.

The Air lines have a big part to play in this exercise he did not travel by boat to Guyana from America. When I travel out of America the Air line check my passport with Home Land Security before leaving and Home Land Security check it upon entering.

This conforms that the Drug lords now control Guyana and the Government. This is a very scary situation we have to deal with, and Guyana can now become terror comfort country using Khan movement to conform this all in the name of drugs.

    • james CANADA says:

Yarrow, the man left the big great USA and all the homeland security and all the big advancement they have there they could not stop him. How can that confirm that the drug lord control guyana. What it confirms to me is that the same homeland security and all the security they have in the US are in on this trade. Don’t blame guyana for the weakness of the US at least he was arrested and is not out on bail in guyana.

    • freespeech UNITED STATES says:

yarrow blame the US, how about leaving through mexico?

  4. Witch Dr. CANADA says:

This one stupid Khan, now you would loose the bail money

  5. MACK UNITED STATES says:

Why is this suspect not deported so he can face the justice system in the US. Where are Rohee and Luncheon on this matter?

    • GT CANADA says:

I agree he should face trail in the US ( and also in Guyana for this new charge)
But pray tell me Mack, how on earth can he be deported?!!!
He is a guyanese citizen ( by birth) never gave up his citizenship – like conrade black-.
I am thinking you mean extradited

    • Sweetpea BARBADOS says:

They can’t deport him, he home in Guyana. The US authorities will have to extradite him. I believe the treatment in the US jail too decent for him anyhow. He too slick for his own good, how he get back in Guyana?

  6. professor UNITED STATES says:

In the US, only 10% of the bail is paid upfront, so he paid only $25,000.

  7. Deze Tante NETHERLANDS says:

Why are these “BUSINESS MEN”granted bail?

  8. Wiffy ITALY says:

Guyana provides a safe haven for these accused traffickers. The list will continue to grow of men wanted in the US, walking free in Guyana plying their “trade.”

  9. SQUADDIE D11838 UNITED STATES says:

MACK JUST IN CASE YOU DIDN’T KNOW THERE IS NO EXISTING EXTRADITION TREATY BETWEEN THE U.S AND GUYANA. IN ORDER FOR HIM TO BE EXTRADITED HE WOULD HAVE TO LEAVE THE COUNTRY LIKE KHAN DID AND END UP IN TRINIDAD OR SOME SUCH COUNTRY.

  10. Lefentelprek UNITED STATES says:

    First time, long time.

These are some of the guys who are part of the group that recruit these foreign base girls for the Southern United States to traffic their drugs. They shoud be put away for a long time. It does not matter if they are jailed in the USA or Guyana. The presiding Judge or Magistrate should put them away for a very long time. Have a loaf is better than none. One by one they will be reighned in. Lock the up and lose the keys.

    PEACE
