A 19-year-old girl who allegedly laced her parents’ food with sleeping tablets in order to stage her own abduction so she could benefit from a ransom was on Wednesday remanded to prison when she appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court.
Amanda Rampersaud of 28 Geneive Canal, Number 1, West Bank Demerara (WBD) was charged jointly with Indranie Davechandlall with the offence of administering a drug with intent to facilitate the commission of an indictable offence.
It is alleged that between May 2 and May 3 at WBD, the duo deliberately and unlawfully caused Salina and Narish Rampersaud to be affected by an overpowering drug by putting sleeping tablets in their food so as to facilitate the indictable offence of abduction.
The teenager pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to her by the Acting Chief Magistrate.
Davechandlall who was not present in court when the charge was read is Rampersaud’s cousin.
Attorney-at-law Pamela De Santos who appeared in association with Senior Counsel Bernard De Santos represented Rampersaud and made an application for reasonable bail to be granted her client.
The matter was called to the bench and a lengthy discussion ensued.
De Santos was unable to secure bail for her client and Rampersaud was subsequently remanded to prison.
Her matter was transferred to the Wales Magistrate’s Court.

The love of money is the root of all evil and this is a classic example. ‘Show me the MONEY!!!!!!!!
She did’nt do it for money, according to the other newspaper she concocted the whole scheme to go to the RADICA show in Georgetown.Guess this is another reason RADICA had to leave and go.lol!

freespeech,
very true! Can you imagine what will happen when every home gets cable TV in Guyana. BET, MTV, VH1 and others will make dem run mad. Its just a matter of time until they get it.
Guess this is the reason you guys have so many NUT-CASE in the good ole USA!
What ah thing!
Oh boy!! What is this country turning into? I am wondering who innocent person or persons would have been held or harassed, bedeviled or even “roughed up” if her plot had gone through. She has no love or respect for her parents. If they had died from overdose what she would have done? I guess nothing, obviously she has no conscience and maybe she would have all of their money.
…is this teen’s fault the overlapping of her parents failure???????
does SN know the name of the “overpowering” drug ? how much was “laced” in the given ???????? could the ammount given have led to death ?????????????? if so ,, why is she not charged with attempted murder along with her “cochor” as an accessory to all crimes alleged !….it’s called guilty by association !…. there is also “guilty by suspicion” ?????????????????????????????
I wonder who paying for her lawyers? Not the same parents I hope? They must have been provided by the State?
…pro bono ,, is not an animal that is familiarly known in GUYANA ,, tho i think now ,, they have legal aid ! but the DeSantoss’ come very high priced ,, and i wanted to ask this ,, but left it open ,, for comment ,, from G’nese blogheads !
r u a G’nese !? the prestigous legal team seems very out of the ordinary ,, how was the “lacing” uncovered ! what has unfolded so far is very intriguing and seem to be verrrrrryy loaded !
….provided by the state ???????????????????????????????
get real ! Gy has not arrived there as yet !…. that clause is not in our constitution !…..
Amazing how young guyanese learn so fast how to do the bad things .
Asked them to be positevely constructive and helpful and they would fail just like that.
She want money , get a job or go marry some old rich man !
Send her to T&T , she will know what abduction is.
Don’t blame American TV. People of “status” in the West Indies have been staging their own kidnappings for ransom for years.
Well said, this is nothing new. What ever the yound people in Guyana doing right now has been done before by adults..
Well she got her wish, she has been “abducted” by the Law, and the ransom is being paid by taxpayers.
at 19 this girl should have finished her CXC and looking for some work. and learning to be responsible.
shame, on the 2 of U
Funny but sad! They need to face the full music of the law.
