Pigeon Island woman hospitalized after battered by partner

A 33-year-old woman is now a patient at the Female Surgical Ward of the Georgetown Public Hospital after she was physically abused by her partner on Saturday morning.

Dawakea Dhanraj of Pigeon Island, East Coast Demerara, told this newspaper yesterday from her hospital bed that her husband came home from work on Saturday morning around 11 o’clock in an intoxicated state.

She said after she enquired from him where he was during the course of the morning, an argument developed which led to him hitting her about the body.
With her left eye swollen and surrounded by black and blue marks, the woman related that the 30-year-old man cuffed her about the face as he held her by her hair. She said that while she and her partner have had similar arguments in the past, Saturday was the first time the situation got to such an extreme.

She said that she and the man had been together for more than five years but did not have any children.

The police are reported to be searching for the suspect who has since gone into hiding.
