After over four months in hiding, Danella Evans called ‘Nelly’ or ‘Samantha’ was yesterday remanded to prison when she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court for reportedly aiding Colin Mack, the entertainment promoter, in the alleged rape of a nineteen-year-old girl in April.
Evans, 17, a fashion student of 95 Roxanne Burnham Gardens, was not required to enter a plea to two indictable charges of aiding and abetting another to commit rape and indecently assaulting a female when Magistrate Priya Beharry read the charges to her.
She stood calmly in the dock as the charges were being read to her which alleged that on April 12 at North Ruimveldt she indecently assaulted the female.
She is also accused on the same day and place of aiding and abetting Colin Mack to have carnal knowledge of the said female without her consent.
Attorney-at-law Winston Murray, who represented Evans, applied for bail for her on the grounds that she posed no risk of flight and that she will attend court when ordered to.
He went on to say that it was inconceivable that the police chose to arrest and charge his client now for a case that had already been presented in the Magistrate’s Court and was now in the High Court for trial. He also emphasized that his client was innocent in the case.
However, Prosecutor Munilall Seetaram objected to the bail application on the grounds that Evans is indeed a flight risk and that she may not return to court for her Preliminary Inquiry at the Magistrate’s Court if released.
He stated that the police had constantly been searching for Evans since the beginning of the case on April 12 and she had continued to be in hiding until police acting on a tip off were able to apprehend her while on a search at her Roxanne Burnham Gardens home last Wednesday.
The prosecution also stated that several searches were made at the said home before last week but police had come up empty handed and investigations had revealed that she may have been hiding in the Kwakwani area during Colin Mack’s PI.
The magistrate later ordered that Evans be remanded to prison and that she appear back in court on September 8.
Reports are that Evans had held the teen down as Mack allegedly raped her and had also allegedly performed an indecent sexual act on the female.
Mack of Festival City, North Ruimveldt is accused of raping the teen and was committed to stand trial at the High Court by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson when he appeared before her at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court on June 5.
Mack was then represented by attorney-at-law Glenn Hanoman and was not required to plead to the indictable charge of rape but he had stressed his innocence throughout the case.
The PI against him took several weeks and the magistrate had concluded that sufficient evidence was produced by the prosecution to determine that a prima facie case existed.
Mack was later granted bail in the High Court in the sum of $250, 000 after the Acting Chief Magistrate had declined to grant him bail in the Magistrate’s Court.
His trial is scheduled to start in the High Court in the October sessions.

At your age you should be thinking straight if you did commit the act you are accused of you have no choice but to do the time ,whather time based on the evidence against you i hope you have the time to reflect on your stupidity.
After four months, it’s only now charges is being laid on her, where is justice in guyana.
she was running for four months.
Afta 4 monts ah den de police fine am.
They have to confirm facts and a lot of things you are very ignorant about before charges can be laid,yu doan charge jus so!!!!
If the allegation that she held her “sister” down and allow this beastly act to be committed on her is true then she truly desire no bail and some hard labor in prison.
I wholeheartedly agree with the reprimand in this case. She must have known after frequent visits by the police to her residence that she was wanted, and should have presented herself at the nearest police station with her attorney for questioning.
