Barataria gunmen kill woman, injure husband

(Trinidad Express) A Barataria woman was killed and her husband critically injured on Monday when gang members opened fire on the couple while they slept.
Police believe the attack was aimed at flushing out the couple’s two sons who reportedly clashed with a gang leader in the district about two years ago.

Jacqueline Jones, 51, was killed while her husband, Cosmos Modeste, 52, was taken to hospital with multiple gun shot injuries.

According to police, around 2.30 a.m. and 3 a.m., gunmen pried open the burglar proofing, gained access to a window, removed three louvre panes and opened fire on Jones and Modeste as they lay asleep.

Police believe the killers intended to torch the house as a container of gasoline was found near the house.
Modeste was able to call for help, police said.
