(Antigua Sun) Extradition proceedings against the former head of the Financial Services Regulatory Commission (FSRC) Leroy King which were expected to get underway on Monday have been delayed.

King appeared in the St. John’s Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Keith Thom.

Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Anthony Armstrong told the court that the Chief Magistrate Ivan Walters, who had set the matter for Monday, was in Barbuda conducting sittings of the district C court.

Armstrong sought guidance of Magistrate Thom as to what new date the chief magistrate has set.

Thom said he did not receive any communication pertaining to that matter and added that he is not sure if any of the prosecutors that sit before Walters were at court on Monday.

Meanwhile, Fox Business News travelled to Antigua for the extradition proceedings.

Reporters and camera persons from the news agency were seen in a white taxi minivan which was parked on Temple Street in the vicinity of Ceco Pharmacy. Adam Shapiro sat in court for the proceedings.

After King left the court’s precincts, Fox Business News reporters tried to interview him but were told an unequivocal “No comment.”

A cameraman from the news agency had his camera outside the courtroom on the balcony reportedly trying to take shots of King.

The US on the last occasion had applied for an additional 15 days to get their house in order.

King, 63, has been charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to ignore wrongs in relation to the alleged Sir Allen Stanford $8 billion Ponzi scheme.

He is facing ten counts of conspiracy to commit mail fraud, seven counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to obstruct the SEC, and conspiracy to launder illegal proceeds.
