PNC supporters need to hear clearly from the PNC about the mayoral elections

Dear Editor,

Mark Benschop’s letter (‘A visionless act,’ 20.1.09) referring to the Stabroek News editorial which properly described the holding of elections for the mayors of municipalities and chairmen of the councils as a farce, has hit the nail on the head.

This sudden change of policy by the PPP was supported with indecent haste by a sudden motion moved by two PNC members, Jordan and John. Is it in keeping with the perception of some that the PNC has struck a deal with the PPP to get rid of the mayor who exposes the PPP? It is another PNC/PPP deal that allowed Jordan to be mayor in 1995.

We PNC supporters need to hear clearly from the leadership of the PNC, so that we would not waste our time trying, as they claim, to reposition the PNC.

Yours faithfully,
Nigel Bacchus
