Credit union members will not receive payouts at February 7 meeting

Dear Editor,
Your article titled ‘Credit unions in decline – Nadir blames poor management’ (Thursday, January 29, 2009), contains an imprecise statement, which I fear if not corrected, holds the possibility of unfairly, albeit inadvertently, raising the expectations of the union’s membership.

For your benefit and in particular the membership of the NAACIE Co-operative Credit Union, members are not “expected to receive payouts,” at the said meeting scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2009 (13:00 hrs) at the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security.

Rather, the impending meeting is intended to sensitise the members of the methodology to be employed in the disbursement of the credit union’s residual cash assets in addition to other related matters.

All cash reimbursements will be made to bona fide members following a claims period, subject of course to verification.
Yours faithfully,
Heston K. Rodrigues
