Dear Editor,

Medical quackery has been around as long as medicine has existed. It exists in various forms and and unless it happens to a loved one, relative or close friend it just goes unnoticed.

As a parent of one of the students that was ripped off by the bogus Inter-American Nursing School, I am very angry and hurt to know that this could have all be prevented by quick action from the Ministry of Health. How can for the past six months or longer, the Ministry of Health not know anything about Ms Budhram and the school she allegedly operated? And yet Ms Budhram was seen in the National Park greeting the Minister at his very own health and fitness walk and fair!

I am no expert here, but isn’t it customary that in order for one to be practising medicine or operating a medical laboratory they have to be registered with the Guyana Medical Council or with Standard and Technical Services?

However, it is nice to see that the ministry is offering courses for the aspiring young people and let us all hope that in future none of this happens again.

Yours faithfully,
Helen Andrews
