No cause for apology

Dear Editor,

I wish to express my concern for different impressions given in your paper of Sunday, February 1, 2009, in an article entitled ‘Rupununi Chamber Chairman apologizes over Brazil Army gravel transport matter.’

The first paragraph stated that the Region Nine administration had accepted an apology from Chairman of the Rupununi Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Please be informed that we address the Head of the Rupununi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) as President and not as Chairman.

At the discussions, there was no cause for the President of Rupununi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) to apologise. There are some statements in the article that are wrongly represented. I am aware that your journalist would try to use words and statements to make a strong and attractive case, but it sends a completely wrong message.

In future, we may have to refuse interviews and send a document instead.

Yours faithfully,
Clarindo Lucas

Chairman
Region 9 Regional Democratic Council

Editor’s note
We stand by our story.
