The ‘old boys’ of cricket should be forced to step down under a wave of criticism

Dear Editor,

The Antigua fiasco is indeed proof positive that the West Indies Cricket Board is the problem in West Indies cricket. The West Indies cricket world were hyped up with expectations after the triumph at Sabina. And that momentum was expected to carry over to the second Test in Antigua. Lo and behold, those who run West Indies cricket like an old boys club were at their incompetent best, and now that momentum has been lost and our boys are back to struggling on a pitch that literally deflates even the most the enthusiastic bowler.

Yet, as Tony Cozier so succinctly pointed out, there will be no investigations, no mea culpa, no resignations; instead it will be business as usual and West Indies cricket will continue to be mired in an administrative time warp. Unless, of course, sports journalists take up the cudgel and don’t relent until a snowballing wave of criticism forces the ‘old boys’ to step down and put West Indies cricket in the hands of those best able to move it forward − legends who once dazzled fans around the world.

Yours faithfully
