Dear Editor,

I want to express serious concerns about the ill-timed placement of my letters in Stabroek News, especially when I am responding to Stabroek News’s letter writers.

The last such mischief occurred on Saturday, February 14, 2009, when I emailed a letter with the title ‘Nitpicking Mr Ram,’ in response to Ram’s letter  in the Stabroek News with the caption ‘Dr Misir should respond to the issues.’

My letter was not published in the Sunday edition of Stabroek News of February 15, 2009, and was on the missing list Monday’s edition of February 16, 2009.

Yours faithfully,
Prem Misir

Editor’s note

Dr Misir is in no position to dictate to Stabroek News when his letters should be published. We should like to remind him that there was a period when he sometimes sent them to us only after they had appeared elsewhere. In recent times – as was the case with the letter in question – his correspondence arrives in the afternoon, long after the letter pages for the following day have closed. Since his response to Mr Ram had already appeared in another section of the press on Sunday, when a number of people would have read it, there was no great urgency for its publication in our Monday edition. If it were not for the fact that it concerned something which appeared in our paper alone, we would have applied the general principle that any letter published elsewhere will not be carried in the columns of this newspaper.
