Almost everybody is demanding his or her rights − women, children, workers, consumers, etc.

However pedestrians in the city of Georgetown have no rights. Just try walking in Water Street, Commerce Street, Regent Street, Wellington Street and so many other streets, you have to literally wiggle your way through vendors and minibuses and jostle with other vehicles for space.The vendors now behave as if the pavements and streets are their private property. Vendors were given the western end of Regent Street; they were given the northern side of the Stabroek Market; now they have the piece north of JP Santos, yet they take over the pavements and streets.

As for the minibus operators they are certain they have the right to block the road to collect passengers, while the touts feel they have the authority to drag women and children to the buses.

When I listen to the police talk about these lawbreakers I am reminded of the pig. If one should try to shear a pig you would get plenty of noise but very little hair.
