Dear Editor,

I must commend the Guyana Revenue Authority for the progress it has made to update its system relative to the issuance of revenue licences. I do hope plans are in place relative to the issuance of drivers’ licences also. Moreso, there is the effort to have persons submit their tax returns for the year 2008. In the printed and electronic media I am sure persons throughout Guyana are fully aware of all the efforts this entity is making to facilitate this process. We are advised that a failure to submit our returns will incur a penalty.

Great, Mr Sattaur. However, I have two big questions for you and the entity at large: when will the GRA at least acknowledge receipt of tax returns for past years, and when will we ever be told that we owe even one cent or nothing? Yes, there is all the fuss about us not submitting our returns or we will be punished, but what about Mr Sattaur and his entity not having the courtesy to respond to the thousands of claims submitted over a number of years?

In other countries people depend on their rebates which are used to further develop themselves. We in Guyana would like to do the same. I am eager to hear from someone at the Guyana Revenue Authority.

Yours faithfully,
K A Williams
