I have a lot of respect for the journalists who often go out on a limb and become the eyes, ears and mouths of the impoverished and forgotten in extremely remote areas of the globe, among other assignments.
I have been tuned in to the reports of the US journalist, Roxana Saberi, who was recently sentenced to eight years in an Iranian prison; what a joke for her case to be handled behind closed doors.
If the Muslim community in Guyana has some interest in this particular case in terms of justice, they should come forward and prepare a petition to the Government of Iran for her release. I am certain that the elders’ request will have some impact on their counterparts in Tehran.
The Caribbean Press Association might also need to raise its voice in relation to the case of the two US female journalists who were recently arrested in North Korea.
