I always enjoy a live stage show at Starlite Drive-in ECD, because it is normally clean, there is good security and bright lights, and one would feel safe and comfortable being in the company of your family, relatives, friends, etc.
But on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at the Radika chutney show, a lot of lawlessness went on, on stage. To begin with, the show started after nine pm, and there did not appear to be seating accommodation; the venue was filled with people standing in front of the stage.
The singers did not sing out their songs; they talked all the time – at the beginning and during the song. One of the artistes (a dancer) stripped on stage, and ended up dancing with panty and bra alone. The artistes called up young girls from the audience to gyrate on stage, and this took care of a segment of the show. When the Radika man came on stage it was 1.30 am. The girl who was the Radika girl did not sing the reply of the song, but sang a few lines of her own Radika song. I did not observe any security inside the venue.
It was a very embarrassing moment, since I took my wife, my daughter-in-law, my secretary and my 14 year old son to the show; my sister was also there and some female cousins.
I wouldn’t wish to blame the owner of Starlite Drive-in as he is providing an entertainment venue for the low-income (countryside) people; the promoter of the show is to be blamed.
While Starlite Drive-In is one of the best venues for live shows, of recent times there have been some vulgar shows. We need to bring back moral standards, decency and respect to the venue.
