Guyanese drug smugglers are increasingly prosecuted in foreign lands but not at home. The recent conviction of several Guyanese in Barbados damningly highlights a stinging truth about Guyana, its government and its law enforcement branch; that drug lords, kingpins and smugglers appear to possess a cloak of immunity or invisibility in Guyana. Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Canada, USVI and the United States have all recently nabbed Guyanese drug shipments and traffickers, while the country of origin has failed to prosecute a single individual of note. Roger Khan pleaded guilty before trial when it was abundantly clear that the preponderance of the evidence, which predominantly came from Guyana, would have locked him away for a long time.

This evidence that was sufficient to cause Khan to plead guilty before trial was strangely missing to government and law enforcement in Guyana where Khan was Robin Hood to many misguided souls. Impotent Guyana has not brought anyone to justice strongly connected to drugs. This nation is a tragic, broken unending lament. It is heading down the very path of Colombia and Mexico. At this rate, this descent is only a matter of time.
