Sewage overflow in Henry Street

Dear Editor,

A serious health hazard of sewerage overflow has erupted in Henry Street, Werk-en-Rust dating back to late March this year. The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) received initial reports and made numerous promises to rectify the problem. Until early May, GWI granted some relief (through the assistance of Puran Disposal Services) which lasted merely a few hours following a ten-minute suction pump exercise at the overflow.

To date, nothing more has been done except for renewed promises by GWI. The residents are suffering severely, not to mention the stench and health risks.

At this stage, it is only humane that GWI apply the water rates already paid for the current year to 2010 and offer tangible compensation for damage done to property.

Yours faithfully,

We are sending a copy of this letter to Mr Rawle Aaron, the PRO of GWI for any comments he might wish to make.
