Dear Editor,
I have been following the Clico fiasco. While it is laudable that the Commissioner of Insurance would like to cut costs to protect policyholders’ interests, I find her actions inconsistent with her intentions. Why is Geeta Singh-Knight the former CEO who was at the helm of Clico (Gy) when disaster struck and who was responsible for making decisions in relation to its operations – to quote her “the buck stops with me” – was employed by the Commissioner although she was suspended by the directors of the company, which continues to pay her salary and benefits. Is this really cost-cutting?
As a matter of decency, why doesn’t Ms Singh-Knight do the right thing and remove herself? What is she doing there?
Yours faithfully,
Philip Chance
