Dear Editor,

I would like to use this medium to congratulate the Kwakwani Secondary School for their success in the Under 17 segment of the National Schools Basketball Championship.

What is noteworthy is that since the inception of this championship the Kwakwani Secondary School has played in all the finals (Open for 4 years and Under 17 this year). This accomplishment by any of the other major basketball-playing schools in Georgetown or Linden would have been made a headline item in the media. The television sports news in Linden did not even acknowledge that the the winner of the Under 17 segment was also a school in Region 10.

Even though for four years we have been in the finals and our only exposure is when these championships come around, no one in authority has tried to find out how this is possible. Well we will also use this medium to congratulate a very dedicated resident of our community who for the past four years worked with these students and achieved great success. This will surprise most readers: the coach of the Kwakwani team is a female by the name of Anne Gordon.

The residents of Kwakwani and all who are interested in seeing Kwakwani progress will continue to support and encourage our youths in whatever way we can. We may be located far from the major sports, but the results from these championships should have registered one thing for sure: Kwakwani has talented youths and a very good basketball coach.

Yours faithfully,
Jocelyn Morian
