Having read both the letters from Ms Mangal (‘Musical chairs in the passport office’ SN, July 12) and from the GPF Public Relations and Publicity Officer, Mr Whittaker (‘Improvements are being made at the passport office building’ SN, July 17), I am delighted that the police have agreed to change the system of musical chairs to one of calling out of numbers instead. Also the staggering of the upliftment of the completed passports is a welcome improvement. The musical chairs system is a ridiculous one, that was also used in the uplifting of pension books for 2009, and seems to be the system of choice for all government offices. I hope that other government offices will follow the passport office in breaking out of this mould.
I would like to congratulate the Guyana Police Force for being so amenable to Ms Mangal’s suggestions, and also for responding so positively and promptly. It shows an open-minded stance that we don’t normally associate with government departments. I sincerely hope that other departments will follow suit in taking up worthwhile suggestions from the public – for example, the one about the dress code.
