Loutish behaviour at bus parks

Dear Editor,

On Friday, July 17 at 3pm I was in the vicinity of Republic Avenue and America Streets, when I saw a student about 12 years old approach the minibuses there. Then four young men, I presume touts or bus conductors, grabbed this student, each one trying to get him in a different bus. This child was lifted off his feet and in the melee braced against a bus. If I had not intervened, I and all the others looking on would have witnessed physical harm being done; this child was so overwhelmed he couldn’t breathe.

What was even more sad was that when I shouted to these ‘thugs’ to “stop murdering the child,” all the others around just looked at me as though I was a mad person.

I went looking for a police officer to bring him or her to the scene and point out the child and the tormentors, but I could not see one in either blue or black.
Editor, what I witnessed on the 17th happens at all the other Georgetown bus parks – Timehri, Linden, Ruimveldt, Kitty, etc, and such behaviour is allowed to continue.

Yours faithfully,
WP George
