The clinic was held for wicketkeepers affiliated to the GCA and some 11 glove men participated in the tournament yesterday.

The programme forms part of the of the GCA’s mandate to help its cricketers with developing the right attitude to the game.

This programme is the third in the series following  two programmes for senior and junior batsmen and bowlers.

Coach Mark Harper worked along with the young keepers who also included under-19 wicketkeeper Dexter Solomon.

The participants were told that the wicketkeeper is a unique specialist position and requires unique practice. It was also noted that a keeper needs to practice just as hard as a bowler or batter but in many cases they don’t in club cricket.

The keepers were also told that the general warm up session for keepers is one of the most important concepts of their craft and much care must be taken when this is being done.

Part of the programme is to ensure that the cricketers practice what they have learned at the clinics so as to improve all facets of their game.

Attending the clinic were Delroy Jacobs (GDF), Sherwin McAlmont (GDF), Wasim Yusuf (TSC), Triston Liverpool (GNIC), Dexter Solomon (GNIC), Martin Pestano-Belle (GCC), Clevon Hyman (GCC), Prince Roberts (DCC.), Denver Greaves (DCC), Denesh Mangal (ECC) and Safraz Esau MSC).
