Problems with GPO’s express mail

Dear Editor,

With reference to the letter ‘Express mail not express’ by Daniel Kumar (SN, August 27), I endured a similar experience recently when I sent some mail via the Guyana Post Office’s Express Mail service thinking that the items would reach their destination at a faster pace compared to the regular mailing system.

I mailed the items at the beginning of the month and instead of reaching quickly to their destination for the price of $3,500, the items did not reach New York until the end of the month. I know this because I contacted the recipients constantly and learned that they received their mail only recently. Had I known this before, I would have simply mailed the items using the regular system or simply sent them via Fedex, which is costly but is worth the while.

However, I do wish to point out at the same time that some items which I had mailed via the GPO’s express system to London did reach their destination quickly (I think within a week). Therefore, I am not certain whether the problem is specifically the express system to the United States and not to other destinations.

Maybe the GPO can clarify this issue since I noted that Mr Kumar experienced his problem with mail to the US as well.

Yours faithfully,
Candace Field
