‘No-parking’ in the Avenue of the Republic area should apply to public transportation only

Dear Editor,
Planning is worthless, unless there is a vision. What really is the vision for Georgetown? Actually, is there even a vision for Georgetown?
I pen this letter with disgust over the parking arrangements within the environs of the High Court, City Hall, New Building Society, Cameron and Shepherd, etc.
I can appreciate that the authorities are trying to ensure that the roadways are free of encumbrances in order to have a free flow of traffic. However, in their attempt to achieve this, they have had to remove vehicles (Berbice hire cars and mini buses) parked along Avenue of the Republic, both north and south bound, and post ‘No Parking’ signs on Avenue of the Republic.

What this has resulted in is that it has caused great inconvenience to the customers of the above mentioned businesses and relocated the Berbice hire cars and mini buses to Charlotte Street. I guess you can tell where the next ‘No Parking’ signs will be painted. Clearly there is no vision and no plan involved here. There was no prior consultation and consideration of consequences. There was no consideration of the effect on the affected. This disjointed approach is simply causing frustration and havoc.

My plea, since I usually visit all of the above mentioned businesses to conduct my personal and professional business, is to have the no-parking zones apply to public transportation and allow private vehicles to park. After all this is within the heart of Georgetown and I really would like some parking in the area.
Yours faithfully,
Ravindra Saul
