Security guard was most helpful

Dear Editor,
Earlier this year, I went to the VAT administration building at Charlotte and Albert Streets, to which the Registry has been transferred from the GPO building.

I wanted to collect certain forms and do certain transactions and I was questioned by one of the security ladies. I am afraid I was rather dismissive about her questions as I couldn’t imagine she would have been able to help me. But she did. She went into the building with me and assisted me in acquiring the forms I required and being attended to, and left to return outside.

When I was finished and returned outside, I felt sheepish because this guard had in fact been most helpful and I was very impressed.  I decided I had to make amends so I went across to her and in the presence of her colleagues and members of the public, I shook her hand and thanked her profusely, telling her that she had been most helpful and I appreciated it.

Also, the next day I had to phone the office for some more information which was supplied to me. I thanked the lady who dealt with me but before I went off the line, she said not to forget to insert the TIN (Tax Payer Identification Number). I thanked her again and told her I appreciated her reminder.

I am quite sure that there are many, many people across the country in both the public and private sectors, people at all levels, who have similar commitment and dedication in providing goods and services and assistance.

In such a situation, how can I not remain optimistic and confident in the future of my country and have respect and regard for my fellow citizens.
Yours faithfully,
John Da Silva
