Dear Editor,

With reference to a letter in your newspaper dated September 25 (‘Teacher requested money for school sports’), I wish to inform you that the records for new admissions at St Gabriel’s Primary School revealed that no child or parent for the Grade One bears the last name as stated in the letter.

I wish to inform you also, that teachers were given consent by the PTA to collect that sum of money to assist in defraying the expenses for the sports.

Yours faithfully,
D. Ackloo
Treasurer

Editor’s note

In the letter Mr Mahadeo did not claim to be the child’s parent; he said the child  was his ward. He subsequently confirmed this with us in a telephone conversation. The child, therefore, does not carry his name.
