Saluting teachers

Dear Editor,

I would like to extend best wishes to all teachers in Guyana as we observe World Teachers Day, tomorrow, Monday October 5, under the theme: ‘Build the Future; invest in teachers now.’ World Teachers Day which started to be celebrated on October 5, 1994, commemorates the organizations of teachers throughout the world. Its aim is to activate support for teachers, and offers the chance to highlight their crucial contributions to education and development. Teachers make vital contributions both inside and outside the classroom.

On this special occasion, I sincerely salute teachers for the indispensable and sometimes complicated role they play. They should continue in this noble profession that they have chosen and remember that “A teacher affects eternity; he/she can never tell where his/her influence stops.” – Henry Brooks Adams.

As they mould the nation’s children at this time of so many challenges, they should bear in mind that they can trust God for the strength and help that they need.

I do invite all students, parents, education officials and the general public to show appreciation for hardworking teachers at this time. May God continue to bless you all.

Yours faithfully,
Jennifer Cumberbatch
