I found Mr. Seopaul Singh’s response to Estherine Adams’ article on Guyana’s delayed Independence unnecessarily pugilistic.
It is obvious that Mr. Singh has a wealth of information on this aspect of Guyanese history which ought to be shared with the reading public. Individuals who live through a particular historical phenomenon are important primary sources who are able to offer specific and targeted insights on that particular phenomenon.
However, I did not detect in Ms Adams’ writing any of the mischief Mr. Singh accuses her of.
Estherine Adams as an MA student of Guyanese history would be fully cognizant of the disruptive role evinced by Burnham and D’Aguiar.
I see no need to pointlessly tarnish the emerging credibility of a young Guyanese historian.
I would moreover like to encourage Mr. Singh to read Clem Seecharan’s review of Jagan during this critical juncture which was published some time ago in the Guyana Review.
Maybe when he has studied Seecharan’s analysis, we can have a discussion.
