It was not fit for diya lighting

Dear Editor,

I could not help noticing on your front page (SN Oct 16) our president lighting the diya.

Before lighting a diya, one’s body, home and environment must be “Satvic“, i.e. clean.

In this photograph, one cannot help noticing the unkempt way this ceremony was taking place, look at the badly made diyas, the unattended sad plant, and the ever present plastic bottle taking pride of place.

Yours faithfully,
Deo Persaud
