I refer to a newspaper article dated November 10, 2009 captioned ‘Has the All Star Weekend lost its mojo,’ where a number of issues were highlighted about the Beepat All Star Basketball Weekend which was held on November 7 and 8, 2009.  I was in attendance for the second game on November 8.  I also concur with your assessment that the Beepat All Star Basketball Weekend has indeed lost its mojo. I too left the event dissatisfied with the level of skill displayed by the so called senior basketball players and the management of the event itself.  It is so sad to see the players giving it their all, when their game will not improve significantly because of the administrative failures by all and sundry who were elected to govern the sport.  This problem is beyond the control of the Beepat Scorpions management team and has festered throughout the nation, where officials are elected to serve but they seldom work and are only concerned with their ulterior motives.  The moral of this situation is the proverb, ‘Whatever you sow, so shall ye reap.’

In light of the foregoing, I must say that my highlight of the proceedings was provided by a fellow sporting the jersey titled ‘Black Out,’ trying his best to get the crowd involved in the slam dunk contest with his emphatic screams and his imitations of Michael Jackson’s dance moves.  To the coordinators of the event, keep up the effort to sustain some interest in the sport of basketball.  I urge them to perform a comprehensive review of the event since there were too many glaring lapses, ranging from the start time of the event to the competitors being selected to perform, and to find workable solutions to correct these deficiencies. To the competitors, kudos to you on your efforts, keep up the effort despite the failures of those entrusted to manage the sport you love.  I hope that the next All Star Basketball Weekend will yield better results.
