Dear Editor,

Over the past few months I had reason to travel to Supenaam and Bartica via speedboat, and I made a somewhat frightening observation. I observed that while the adults on most of the speedboats were wearing life-jackets, children and babies were not. I am bringing this to your attention for several reasons: to create a greater awareness among speedboat operators and associations with the hope that they will correct this practice; to create a greater awareness among parents with the hope the they would insist that their children’s lives are protected; and to bring it to the attention of the authorities so that they would enforce the necessary laws and by extension protect the rights of these children who are placed in a vulnerable position, daily.

Yours faithfully,
Audreyanna Thomas
