Dear Editor,

I have read about the robbery committed some time ago on a magistrate. This lady was struggling daily commuting from Berbice to Georgetown to do her job. It was more painful to know that she normally took her poor little baby and baby-sitter with her and they were also victims of this crime.

I do not know if the rules regarding reporting a crime have changed since 1976. I was a member of the Guyana Police Force prior to that and during my time you could have reported a crime at any police station. In the event that the crime was committed at a different station district, the report had to be transmitted to the relevant station and a statement taken from the victim and forwarded to the station.

Just in case the rules are the same, the police at Weldaad should have never referred the magistrate to Mahaicony.

Yours faithfully,
C. Singh
