There is plenty of land in Guyana to build houses on, without having to knock down Bourda. Over the years, some of Georgetown's most beautiful wooden buildings have been destroyed, and it would be a terrible shame if the GCC ground was allowed to deteriorate any further. Knocking down the GCC pavilion would be akin to razing City Hall or St George's Cathedral.

This is indeed sad.

Guyana is in need of a Historical Preservation society on something like that. If there is one existing, then their silence is most deafening.

The GFC ground and the GCC Ground should both be declared National Landmarks and be refurbished. Bourda, after all, is where West Indies had their 1st win in Test cricket. I am not that familiar with the MSC, but certainly the people of Linden deserve a better than good facility to host events.

I do not see why the Government cannot facilitate the upkeep of these facilities. Certainly Bourda does not need all the stands. What they could do is refurbish the main pavillion and reduce the remainding stands to what is was in the 60's & 70's. In other words, make it such that when young players play there, they will feel the history of the storied grounds. Now, I understand that GCC and the GFC are privately run facilities (I could be wrong, so please correct me if I am)and the interests that control them would have to cede some authority on usage etc., if the Ministry of Sports and Culture is to pay part of all of the upkeep.
