Wayne Dover has resigned as head coach of the Alpha United Football Club and has his sights set on other pastures.

“I’ll be pursuing bigger things. I’ve been offered a job at Caledonia AIA as well as Trinity College in Trinidad,” he disclosed.

Dover, who tended his resignation to the club on January 12, said:”  I’ll be looking at the possibility of taking up one of the two offers.”

He said he had been offered the post of assistant coach at Caledonia AIA.
If he accepts the post at Caledonia AIA he will be among familiar faces.
Trinidadian Jamaal Shabazz is the technical director of Caledonia AIA while several Guyanese players are on the rostrum including Charles Pollard, Howard Lowe, Walter Moore and Kester Jacobs.

Shabazz recently served as technical director of the Guyana Football Federation, where Dover was a member of the coaching panel.

Dover is not altogether unfamiliar with the workings of Caledonia AIA having spent a two-week stint there last year courtesy of the GFF.

Not much is known about Trinity College except for the fact that while Caledonia AIA participates in the  Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) pro league, Trinity College  plays in the schools competition.

“They get more crowds than the Pro League,” was Dover’s candid assessment of the impact on crowds on the two competitions.

Dover was a former Beacon defence player who played right back for the club from 1986-1991.

During his stint with Beacon the team won the 1995 Demico League competition and the 1995-96 Kashif and Shanghai tournament.

Eight years ago Dover turned to coaching and has racked up a slew of accolades while leading Alpha United to the coveted Georgetown Football Association (GFA) League title.
The club has won the Georgetown League title for the last three years which Dover declares has been his biggest accomplishment.

“My biggest achievement as a coach was winning the Georgetown League title,” he said which was surprising for the team that also won the prestigious Kashif and Shanghai title in the 2007/2008 competition.

Last year the team also won the Mayor’s Cup, the Namilco Cup and the Alpha Football Festival competitions.

Dover is extremely grateful for the support he has received since joining the club in 2006.
“I would like to thank Mr. Lumumba (Odinga) for his support during my tenure at the club,” he said.

“It has been wonderful working with him. He has been an excellent president. One who always wants the best for the club,” he added.

“I would also like to wish the club all the best, to thank the players for their support and our supporters as well,” he ended.
