Intent on continuing and completing their first and third division competitions which were started last year, the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association (GABA) is hoping that the present weather conditions hold.

In an invited comment to Stabroek Sport, secretary of GABA and former national captain Robert ‘Bobby’ Cadogan said that the Association has some minor hiccups they have to take care of before they can get things underway.

“First of all, the GABA went to great lengths to return the sport of basketball back to the Burnham Court. But it seems as though some were not appreciative of this gesture, as we did not play games in the afternoons, but we also had some night matches.”

Cadogan said that “lights were set up around the court as well as in the stands, but vandals saw it fit to take away those that were in the stands, whilst the weather blew the filament on two that were erected around the court.”

However GABA is at present preparing its 2009 calendar of events and would be replacing the lights since the association intends to stop at nothing to ensure basketball returns to that part of Central Georgetown in an effective manner.

In the first division, unbeaten Dyna Embroidery Ravens will be looking to continue that streak as they seek to cart off the title.

But they will be hard pressed by Nets, Courts Pacesetters and Pepsi Sonics, who have only lost one of their matches respectively.

In the third division league, Courts Pacesetters are setting the pace at the front of this competition and barring any complications, they can very well cart off the title ahead of Bounty Colts and Pepsi Sonics respectively.

In a press release signed by GABA president Trevor Rose, the association is apologizing for the delay in the restart owing to the inclement weather, and is also asking all clubs to be on time for  their encounter, failing which a walkover will be awarded to their opponents.
